Snowboarding Tricks - Backside 720

One of the advanced tricks that you can do on a Halfpipe is the Backside 720. In this maneuver, you will spin twice in the air. Make sure to fine-tune your aerial movements and brush up on your turns first before trying this trick. In this section, learn how to perform a Backside 720:

STEP 1: In doing this trick, make sure that you have enough air for the turn. It is crucial to have a solid drop to the Halfpipe so you can gain the right speed.

STEP 2: Prepare yourself for takeoff as you approach the lip of the halfpipe.

STEP 3: Both full turns will be done in the air. Once you're in the air, rotate your body and your board backwards and make a 360-degree spin.

STEP 4: After the first spin, make another full turn. Take note that it is a short flight so you need to be quick in your movements.

STEP 5: Keep turning until you complete the second full spin.

STEP 6: Land as close to the lip as possible so you can have a smooth exit and then ride away.

Bear in mind that a Backside 720 is an advanced trick. In fact, there are more tricks which come before that such as a 360 and a 540. Make sure that you are already comfortable with these tricks before trying a 720 on the pipe.

two and a half spins is a 900.360 X 2.5 = 900

yeah I noticed it too... I was watching it remotely on my PC at home, from my job, so the animation was really laggy, but noticed he's riding goofy when he takes off... and lands goofy... that can't be a BS 7... Then I watched it directly on my browser at job to see if it showed a 5 or a 9, and its a 9!

I find it hilarious that they don''t *actually* teach you how to do a BS 720, they just describe one being done. They don''t say anything about approaching flat, whether you should hit toe or heel edge up the lip, where to shift your weight. I''ll write my own tutorial for a BS 720 in 6-Easy-Steps that will be just as helpful as this one. It will go like this:

BS 720 in Six-Easy-Steps!
1. Drop-In
2. Approach the lip and be ready to do a 720
3. Do a 720
4. Land the 720
5. Raise hands above your head as you ride away
6. Raise and lower hands repeatedly to raise the roof (giving props to your homies after you bust this trick is necessary but oft forgotten aspect of Backside 720s)

Happy Riding!

..... deffinatly dont forget the props!! lol
in the end no-one is going to teach you how to do a BS 7 or 9 or anything for that matter through the internet and animated drawings!! the best way to learn is go to the slopes and parks and just spend some time watching the people who can do these things already. Watch how they approach, which edge, speed etc, and try to adapt what you saw to progress slowly n develop what is the best way for you to do that trick!! Everyone rides slightly different and how i might go about a BS 7 would be slightly different to the next person and so on!!
p.s. if you can''t get to slopes just yet and still want to progress, you can always watch a boarding vid''s or something. This can also be another way to see how people who can do these tricks everyday go about it. But always remember that these guys are usually professionals and if you are going to try things yourself make sure to take it at your pace!! Happy spinning people!!

when u want to do a BS 7 or any jump for that matter, do you try to ollie right before u leave the lip or does tht make it harder?

Its a 9, any trick in a halfpipe where you take off regular, then land regualar, or take of goofy then land goofy is an odd numbered spin, it doesn''t matter if you revert, come up lame, or wash out. Its a 9.

It''s really a BS 900. And by the way you should be very comfortable with your 3s and 5s before you even think about a 720s or 900s . I broke my ribs trying to do a backside 720. So be very careful and use some protection while trying it.

For the most part the animations and details on this website are excellent. I do find the naming of the "tricks" are off, as well as jumping from 180s to 720s might seem a little ridiculous. Why not put a 360 instruction in here first, or even 540?

Maybe they should have just went directly to the 1080 double corks!

I can do all these tricks and this is the worst tutorial I have ever read. Pay no attention to any of this garbage. (That animation is so retarded)

Best tips: Keep your shoulders over your board and bend your knees. When jumping keep in mind where your shoulders have to be when landing. 99% of all tricks have to do with proper shoulder movements. Always be using an edge even if just slightly but also try to at the same time keep your board flat when setting up for rails airs spins. Too much edge will make you fall forward or backwards or cork out your spin or make you drift killing steez- Think straight in straight out. If you can''t visualize your self doing it or your scared don''t. If you focus on crashing guess whats gonna happen!

When approaching the jump for a back 720 (or any back spin). Set up carve on your heels then on your toes up the ramp. Try to think "light on your feet" bend your knees up the ramp keep balance centered on both feet. Just as you approach the lip straighten legs at the same time throw your shoulders and turn your head in the way you want to go. As you go off the lip pull in those legs and grab (gotta grab to make it count) keep the head turned the whole way and spot your landing (back side is usually through your legs).
PS. pick a bigger jump make sure your speed is right and make sure you can dial 3s and 5s first!

Hope this helped someone

Oh ya when your ready to land straighten legs and with a 720 (like a 360) you will land on your heels.

When I go into a jump I always think what edge am I going off of? what edge am I going to land on? How do I want my shoulders in the air to land parallel to the ramp. Do I have enough speed? Do I have too much? Because they change all the time always start your park run checking out the jumps. Watch a few people go over them first to figure out speed.
Ride in your comfort zone if you can''t see it in your head it isn''t there-
