In its simplest form, Grinding is riding on things other than snow such as Snowboarding Rails, ramps, and boxes. There are a lot of tricks and moves that can be done on rails. The most fundamental one is the 50/50 Grind. It is also the easiest grind to learn. Just take note that you should be comfortable doing Ollies before trying this grind. In this section, learn how to perform a 50/50 Grind. Follow the steps below and use our animation as your guide.
STEP 1: Look for a good place to grind. Find a Snowboarding Rail that is not too high so you will be able to execute an Ollie with ease.
STEP 2: Approach is very crucial in doing a 50/50 Grind, as this will ensure that your board will stay flat and straight while on the rail. Ride down the rail, keeping speed under control.
STEP 3: Have a good take-off so you will stay balanced and in control. Crouch slightly and make a small Ollie to reach the rail, with your board completely on its surface.
STEP 4: Simply grind like you would if you are just on snow. Keep your board parallel to the Snowboarding Rail. Maintain your balance and just go with the grind.
STEP 5: To get off, make a small Ollie as you reach the end of the rail. Have perfect timing to avoid an early exit.
STEP 6: Land with both feet and then ride away.
It takes some practice and patience to be able to do 50/50 Grinds with ease. Make sure to brush up on your Ollies first to minimize the problems that you may encounter as you perform moves on Snowboarding Rails.
