Woopy Jumping: The Newest Mountain Craze

Woopy Jumping is the latest mountain sport to hit the town. A combination of skiing and snowboarding, backed with the basic principles of gliding, the sport provides increased adrenalin as you slope down at a faster speed than all other snow sports.

Discovered by Laurent de Kalbermatten in 1995, woopy jumping was developed as he was testing different inflatable wing and aerofoil systems in his efforts to find the lightest and floaty wings for his system. His experiments directed the idea of using inflated wings to lengthen snowboarding and skiing jumps, developing the new sport together with his test pilot Guy Bertrand Jacquier.

Woopy Jump is not as complex at it may sound. The sport makes use of high quality nylon fabric wings, which inflates through the use of battery operated fans. As the rider goes down the slopes the wings will rise above the pilot, connected to him through a harness. The wings allow the rider to speeds up to 55 kilometers per hour. Those interested to take on this newest sport may try it first hand at the Woopy Park in Morgins, Switzerland, where riders can learn the principles of the sport.
