Wintergreen is keenly sensitive to the delicate balance between nature and development. Wintergreen Resort has long been a champion of preserving the natural beauty of its surroundings. Since inception Wintergreen has carefully thought out its growth, and continues to work closely with The Wintergreen Nature Foundation, a non-profit organization that shares the common goal of preserving and protecting the Blue Ridge region of central Virginia.
At Wintergreen Resort, we know our greatest asset is the environment. Formed millions of years ago during a collision of continental plates, the Blue Ridge mountains are some of the oldest in the country. The unique characteristics of these mountains give them an unmatched grandeur and provide our guests with some of the most spectacular views in Virginia.
Wintergreen Resort proudly endorses The National Ski Areas Association’s Sustainable Slopes, and is committed to preserving the character of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The value of this preservation effort holds today, and Wintergreen is a showcase of quality recreation opportunities for skiers, snowboarders, and countless summer guests. Here at Wintergreen, we never underestimate the value of our natural surroundings in uplifting the human spirit.
Skiing in WintergreenAt almost 4,000 feet elevation, the climate here is up to 20 degrees cooler than in the surrounding areas. This means that even if temperatures seem too warm for skiing where you are – it’s a different world up here at nearly one mile above sea level. And with our state-of-the-art 100% computerized snowmaking system in place, we can cover more terrain faster than ever before. “You Gotta Ski It To Believe It!” When the air is clear and crisp, you can see 50 miles away. Check current weather and snow conditions on our web site throughout the season.
