With its 1,200-foot vertical, Sugar Mountain Resort is the largest ski area in North Carolina, and one of few resorts breaking a 1,000-foot vertical south of New England. Sugar boasts a 1200 ft vertical! The mountain offers skiers and boarders 20 trails and 8 lifts spread out over 115 acres.

The lower mountain features graceful, gentle terrain; perfect for lower intermediates and beginners. The summit, however, will surprise even seasoned experts with several narrow, expert trails sporting 60-percent pitches.

For snowboarders there is the well-groomed terrain park with a fun box, tabletop, spine, quarter pipe, rail slide and a brand new lift. In addition to the terrain park, snowboarders are allowed on all trails.

The fully certified PSAI and AASI ski and snowboard schools offer programs for all ages and abilities. The Polar Bear and Sugar Bear programs are designed specifically for our little learners. Group and private lessons are also available. Over 70 instructors eagerly await your arrival.

If rental equipment is what you need, we’ve got it. Skis, snowboards, boots, binding, poles, snowshoes, skiboards and other necessities are available. If you can’t find what you need in the rental department, the Sugar Mountain Sports Shop will surely have it. Our friendly staff will help you find the newest, coolest, most practical gear.

Sugar’s tubing park offers 700-foot long tubing runs serviced by 2 lifts, snowmaking and lights for night tubing. We receive anywhere from 20 inches to over 70 inches of natural snow annually, which is supplemented with 100 percent snowmaking.

After a hard session of outdoor activity we know you might be hungry and thirsty. Two cafeterias the Last Run Lounge, and the candy shop should appease your cravings.

If you’re looking for a quality experience at reduced rates, we have a few programs that may accommodate you. Sugar’s Group Sales department has reduced rates for groups of 15 or more. The Winter Value Package program offers discounts on lift tickets, lodging and rental equipment during the early and late season and midweek discounts during midseason. Learn to Ski/Snowboard packages are also available. Special programs range from daycare to snowshoeing. And finally, you are sure to find a fun activity on our calendar of events.

Other Specifications:    Trail System: Twenty slopes and trails spread over 115 skiable acres and a 1,200' vertical drop provide all levels of skiing. Beginners can enjoy the Rope Tow area, Easy Street, and Lowing Flying Mile, while advanced skiers will try Tom Terrific, Boulder Dash and Whoopdedoo, our expert trails.

Snowmaking: At Sugar snowmaking is more than just important; it is a priority. Sugar knows that its reputation for snowmaking is what keeps skiers coming back.

Night Skiing: Whether it is the stars above or the convenience of being able to ski after work, many take advantage of night skiing. Sugar’s 100 lighted acres are open seven nights a week.

Grooming: Sugar Mountain’s grooming machine operators are professionals, as well as expert skiers. They know what type of snow surface skiers want and strive to achieve it each time they take to the slopes in their machines.
