Originally, Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort first served as a local ski area with our first downhill run cut out of the mountain forest in the mid 1950s. Today, our resort offers the two finest resort-style golf courses in the Midwest, mountain biking, a variety of winter sports activities, including skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling, and all of the charm, culture and history of northeastern Minnesota's Iron Range.

| Cross-country Skiing | Follow our trails cross country.
Take a look around. You’re in the heart of Minnesota cross country skiing, where the trees are towering overhead and the landscape is that gorgeous, smooth white of a north woods winter. All you’ll hear is your own footsteps or the sound of your skis on our perfectly groomed cross country skiing trails. We’ve got miles and miles to explore and they’re all right here at Giants Ridge—where you’ll find the best cross country skiing in the Midwest.
Sixty kilometers of scenic well-groomed Minnesota cross country ski trails weave through the Superior National Forest at Giants Ridge. This system was initially developed for intensive training by the US Ski Team and presents long, gradual grades, spectacular vistas, roller coaster rides and a variety of challenge for beginners through accomplished skiers. Three kilometers of nordic skiing trails are lit for night skiing, and numerous trails are accessible by lift from the top of the mountain.
Giants Ridge Cross Country Terrain:
The trails climb on and over “Giants Ridge” which straddles the Laurentian Divide with superb overlooks of the scenic Embarrass River, Wynne Lake, and Sabin Lake. Much of the trail system lies within the Superior National Forest. The Giants Ridge cross country trail system is one of the finest in North America.
Trails:
Sixty Kilometers of trails, some designed to challenge the most serious skier and others to be enjoyed by recreational skiers. Lift access to three recreation trails (16 km) and the downhill portions of several advanced trails. Lighted skiing on three kilometers. Almost all trails are cleared to twenty feet wide with a groomed surface of eighteen feet. Most trails are groomed with classical tracks on the sides and a skating lane in the center. The Oslo Trail is groomed with side-by-side classical tracks and no skating lane. The Gold, Silver, and Cedar trails are one-way trails. All others can be skied in two directions.

We have the largest terrain park east of the Rockies with a 120-foot Big Air, a gapdrop 30-foot rail, a fun box with a rainbow, two 30-foot booters, a 60-foot table and an 80-foot Big Air! PLUS, numerous other hits and jibs totaling almost 20 different lines! And, get a load of this...the halfpipe is over 300 feet long!

You’ll be catching serious air before you know it. | | Snowshoeing | Experience the peaceful serenity of winter here at a great Minnesota resort, Giants Ridge. Wind your way through the scenic Superior National Forest on the six-foot-wide “Sleeping Giant” snowshoe trail at Giants Ridge. The Sleeping Giant is four miles long and climbs to the top of the Laurentian Divide with spectacular vistas and magnificent views along the way.
Whether you’re an experienced snowshoer or out for the first time, there’s no better place than Giants Ridge. We’ll even outfit you with a pair of snowshoes in our on-site Rental Shop. Instruction is also available from the experienced Giants Ridge Ski School.

Snowmaking: To supplement natural snowfall, Giants Ridge is covered by our state-of-the-art snowmaking system which includes 14-SMI Highlanders, 5-SMI Boyne, 3-SMI Polecat Conversions, 2 SMI cats, and 6-Hedco Cubs. Between 65 and 70 million gallons of water are pumped each year to make snow.
Grooming: The ski runs are groomed by a fleet of 3-LMC 3700C and 1-PB 200 groomers equipped with state-of-the-art hydrostatic tillers.
