Ski Butternut

SKI Magazine features Ski Butternut and the town of Great Barrington, MA as "a ski destination town" in their November issue.

The Butternut Ski & Snowboard shop voted "Best of New England" by the Snowsports Reps Association and they should know as they visit every shop in the East. Reasonable prices, Skilled staff, on-site Demo Center, pleasing merchandising and the quality of the shops overall offering are reasons mentioned in the award.

LIFE SAVER - Guests suffering from a heat attack has life saved thanks to quick action by our Ski Patrol staff. Patrol team members used an onsite A.E.D. to shock the guest heart back into a controlable rythem.

Winter 2003-04 weather proved to be a roller coaster with a lack of cold temps before Christmas. Then guests had to brave extremely cold weather from Christmas through late January before it moderated. The cold temps often dipped into negative numbers with daytime highs reaching for single digitis did cut down on visits. The cold weather did have an upside as our snowmaking team was able to use the frigid cold temps to blast the entire mountain with a tremendous amount of snow, shoring up the slopes with incredible conditions that lasted the rest of the season. Season ended April 3, 2004.

2004 - NEW QUAD CHAIR installed to replace the 36 yr old Highline Double located on skiers left of Main Street. The new lift is 3000' feet long and covers 620' vertical. Trails and Routes

Cross-country Skiing  The Butternut Cross Country Center offers 8 km. of groomed trails. The trail system wanders over varying terrain, through a beautiful wooded area near the base of the mountain. The trails offer easy access to the Upper Lodge and the downhill skiing facilities at Butternut. The center plans to be open Thursday through Sunday plus all holiday periods shown for the downhill area.

Natural snow is necessary to open, as there is no snowmaking on the cross country trails.

Adult and children's rentals are available as well as lessons.Snowboarding  At Ski Butternut we offer two terrain parks. One on Cruiser and the second, a more advanced park, on Downspout. Guests looking to get exposed to terrain features should check out the Cruiser terrain park first. Those more experienced and looking for bigger air and more difficult features should head over to Downspouts Park area.

Terrain features are open to both skiers and snowboarders. Please use common sense. Look before you leap. Use spotters to make sure the landing area is clear. Follow all other rules as printed on the Ski Butternut trail map and commonly refered to as "Your Responsibility Code".
