Our HistoryFor many years, the children of the Perkins Ridge area travelled long paths down to a hidden clearing on a hillside. They called this adventure: "A Visit to Lost Valley." Later, in 1961, 1 700 ft. rope tow and a base lodge with a fieldstone fireplace was the birth of the Lost Valley Ski Area that exists today. Snow-making was installed that first year. By 1965, there were six trails serviced by a T-Bar and chair lift, and an addition of unique design with hugh exposed beams and an "all glass" front was added to the lodge. It was in 1967 that a program of expansion was started under the direction of present owner, Fern Pontbriand, involving both the winter operation and the opening of the lodge to receptions, seminars, and private functions during the summer. In 1970, a new double chair lift was installed to service a whole new complex of trails equipped with snow-making and lighting. Later, in 1977, the lodge expanded to accommodate a rental shop, a large retail ski shop, and also a spacious new lobby along with much needed office space.
Through the continued year round support of the people of southern Maine, Lost Valley Ski Area has grown and now hosts one of the largest ski schools in Maine with nearly one hundred instructors, employs about the same number of lift attendants and support personnel, and the lodge enjoys an excellent reputation as a banquet and convention center. The staff at Lost Valley is proud to be a part of such a successful operation and welcomes all who come to enjoy the year-round facilities.
Snowsports at Lost ValleyMaine's Valley full of snow! When Mother Nature forgets to blanket us, every slope is layered with the finest man-made snow you'll ever ski or snowboard on. The first in Maine to make artificial snow, Lost Valley has 39 years of snow-making experience.
Lost Valley takes great pride in their grooming ability as well, working constantly to make sure you'll have the best available conditions on every trail, top to bottom, every day of the Lost Valley ski season. But grooming begins long before the season does, the slopes are kept in fairway condition during the fall so that skiing can be had on a limited snow cover.
The Lost Valley Ski and Snowboard Shoppe is now OPEN. You will find everything you need for a great on snow experience.
