Mt. Cain is located in Northern Vancouver Island, about 75 km NW of Sayward (about half-way between Campbell River and Port McNeill). It is easily accessed from highway 19 and is located 8 km south of the Woss turnoff. It's a 16 kilometer ride on a gravel road from the highway to the day lodge. Roads are regularly maintained by the mountain's maintenance department, assisted by forest companies.

Mount Cain

Situated on the north end of Vancouver Island, Mount Cain offers a unique experience for skiers, snowboarders and backcountry explorers. Only a short drive (roughly two hours) from the north end of the island or Courtenay and Campbell River area, Mt. Cain is ideal for families and snow enthusiasts of all skill levels.

At Mount Cain you'll find untouched powder which has built up over the week, virtually no line-ups for lifts and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of a family oriented mountain. Mt. Cain is located in a regional park and is run by a non-profit society, the Mt. Cain Alpine Park Society. It is Vancouver Island's only community owned and operated ski and snowboard facility.

Mt. Cain now has a shuttle bus, leaving from the base of the mountain (just off the Island Highway, about 70 kms northwest of Sayward). It seats 20, first come, first serve, and makes 1 round trip per day. The Snow Bus leaves at 8:30 am and returns from the lodge at 4:15 pm. Great for kids, teens, parents - anyone who wants to leave the driving to us. [Note: the bus does not run on Mondays.]

Mount Cain has received one of Ski Canada's "best community ski hill" awards in their annual Best of Skiing in Canada awards. The awards were presented in Ski Canada's winter 2005 issue. We also received a wall plaque that will be proudly displayed in our lodge.

Trails and Routes

Snowshoeing  The area surrounding the Mt. Cain Alpine boasts some of the best snowshoeing and back-country skiing on Vancouver Island. The terrain ranges from gentle sub-alpine trails to mountaineering steeps easily accessible from the parking lot.

Light touring equipment is recommended for sub-alpine trails. For the mountaineer there are three peaks at 1500m within a 5 km radius.
