British Snow Tour organisers are proud to reveal a new era of Indoor Championships – The Rebellion. A competition course that boasts two distinct lines of rails and boxes running simultaneously, individual titles and a minimum of four hours slope time per rider promises to set the scene for the ultimate indoor rulers to emerge.

The Rebellion is set to revolutionize snowboard & freeski
warfare: the ‘Rail Slayer’ title will be awarded to those that deploy Jedi-like skills on the metal. The ‘Jib Master’ will go to those who can blow the box-zone to pieces. Only those who can conquer both zones can mount a realistic attack on the coveted British Indoor Championship title.

The action takes place at SNO!zone Castleford on Saturday 24th September, this is set to be the biggest showdown on the event calendar with British Championship medals to be earned, TTR world-ranking points to be gained, prize purse to be won and reputations to be forged - Let the battle commence!

Snowboard Championships Schedule:
09.00 – 11.00 Box Line (All women plus KM, YM (unless seeded))
11.10 – 13.10 Rail Line (All women plus KM, YM (unless seeded))
13.20 – 15.20 Box Line (JM, OM, MM (plus all seeded men))
15.30 – 17.30 Rail Line (JM, OM, MM (plus all seeded men))

18.15 – 19.00 Rail Line (Finalists – 15 riders (10 men / 5 women))

The Seeded Riders from last year’s British Snow Tour Ranking list (making them Tour leaders) are: Jordan Gee and Katie Ormerod . These riders will enjoy the added benefit of running in reverse order watching the rest of the field before they throw-down the gauntlet.

The British Snow Tour, which is part of the TTR World Snowboard Tour, would not be possible without its highly supportive sponsors: Protest, Trespass, Cushe and Snow+Rock. Media partners: Whitelines, Huck, Extreme Sports Channel, Downdays.eu, Skiclub.co.uk, In The Snow, Metrosnow.co.uk and Snowboardclub.co.uk.

The Southern Hemisphere season of the World Rookie Tour concluded with the very successful second ever Australian Rookie Fest at Thredbo Resort. Henry Bessell, last year’s Grom winner, took out the Rookie division: he won a trip to the Protest World Rookie Finals 2012 in Ischgl, Austria, as did the female Rookie winner Alex Fitch

Unfortunately the weather was against us, so Charles Bec
kinsale, our internationally renowned course designer, had to make the call on the morning of the event to switch courses from Antons to High Noon. All the competitors were disappointed with the decision as they were really looking forward to hitting the 30ft and 50ft jumps on the specially designed course. However, the course was fogged in and dangerous on the day. The second choice course consisted of a long down box and 2 jumps, which allowed all to show off their best tricks.

Among the grom division Matty Cox and Cassie Fortune took out their category, winning an invitation to the Protest World Rookie Fest in Livigno in January , 2012.

Red Bull also provided flights in the Red Bull stunt plane for each of the Rookie and Grom winners. In addition, Red Bull provided $1,000 to each of the Rookie winners to go towards the cost of travel to Ischgl next year. For the first time the Rookie winners also received an invitation to compete at Stylewars – The Australian Slopestyle Championships in Falls Creek, a 4 star TTR event. Thanks to the event sponsors Red Bull, Thredbo, K2, Semantics, Smith Optics and Adrenalin + Boardstore.

Results for Australian Rookie Fest 2011
Male Rookie: 1st Henry Bessell; 2nd Ben Alexis; 3rd Jack Hasler
Female Rookie: 1st Alex Fitch; 2nd Biba Turnbull; 3rd Stephanie Dahan

Male Grom: 1st Matthew Cox; 2nd Joshua Vagne; 3rd Angus Waddington
Female Grom: 1st Cassie Fortune; 2nd Emily Arthur; 3rd Georgia Baff

The World Rookie Tour will come back from December 2011 with the first events of the Northern Hemisphere season. Stay tuned on www.worldsnowboardfederation.org and on www.facebook.com/worldrookietour

The final day of competition at the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games brought with it some memorable highlights with riders going out huge with tricks of true World Cup standard. Riders were again treated to another spectacular blue bird day where Finland’s Janne Korpi and China’s Xuetong Cai took out the men and women’s titles in the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Halfpipe finals.

A fiel
d of twelve men and six women including world number one Nathan Johnstone of Australia competed in a two run semi-final with men and women alternating runs. The bar was set high from the start with internationals Taylor Gold (USA) and Ursina Haller (SUI) riding hard to place in the finals. Gold demonstrated great technical ability and variety with a solid second run earning him 92.5 points and a place in the final. Haller recovered quickly from a poor first run to gain 86.3 in run two, reminding spectators why she is ranked 4th in the world.

Yesterday’s qualifiers saw a further six men and two women going straight to final giving a total of twelve men and six women to battle it out in the finals.

Janne Korpi of Finland stole the limelight in the end making easy work of the Olympic pipe with a blistering 93.0 point performance which included a backside rodeo alley-oop 540 nose grab followed by a backside 900 mute grab into a frontside 1080 tail grab cab 1080 nose grab finishing with a stalefish.

“The competition went really well for me today. I decided which run I was going to do yesterday, stuck to it and it paid off. I didn’t do anything new today but changed the order of tricks and it paid off. It’s my first Winter Games and I’m really happy to have won and be a part of the competition,” said Korpi

Yiwei Zhang of China took out second place with a score of 90.8 with Dimi de Jong placing third with 88.0 points.

There were no surprises in the women’s field with the world number Xuetong Cai of China leading from the start with an impressive score of 92.8 made up of a frontside indie, back 540 mute, frontside 7, cab 3 mute grab and frontside 540 melon grab. World number two Holly Crawford of Australia took out second place with 88.5 points with Ursina Haller of Switzerland taking third place with 77.3 points.

“It was a great competition today, the pipe is in great condition and the weather is perfect for competition. The Chinese always put up a strong fight raising the level of competition. It’s great to see the girls pushing the boundaries. I didn’t pull any new tricks out the bag today as it’s early in the season and there is no point going out too hard and injuring yourself. I’m really happy to have placed on the podium today as I was injured last Winter Games,” said Crawford.

Judge Ste’en Webster was really impressed with the level of competition.

“Today was excellent with the riders really stepping things up a gear going into the final. Janne Korpi’s winning run was just outstanding and a pleasure to watch. There were no new tricks today but we did see a lot of doubles which is great. Although it’s fast becoming a stock trick, it’s still not necessarily a competition winner and if riders chose to perform this trick it needs to be executed with real precision. It’s been a really fantastic 16 days of competition and we’ve been blessed with great weather. It’s a competition we’re really happy to be a part of,” said Webster.

Construction has started and containers are in place to make way for the Skullcandy Big Air in Methven tomorrow, with snow due to arrive from Mt Hutt today (August 26th).

Fresh powder falling last week at Mt Hutt has been a welcome gift for skiers and riders and has also been an added bonus for this weekend's event.

Karyn Robertson, event organiser, said excitement is bu
ilding in town as construction gets underway.

“The containers are in place, scaffolding is up, the FMX riders are in town, and all hands are on deck,” she said. “Everything is looking good and Friday will be an exciting day when the snow is loaded onto the ramp and shaping begins with the expert assistance of Mt Hutt Terrain Park crew”

The 17-metre high Big Air kicker will showcase a field of top athletes alongside an FMX spectacular, massive fireworks and live music featuring top NZ band The Black Seeds - all coming together to make this one of the most epic days of the season.

Top names confirmed in Methven this weekend include Skullcandy Auckland Big Air snowboard champion Liam Ryan who will be gunning for the Series Title against other well known riders such as Nick Hyne, Hamish Martin and Luke Sinclair.

International skier Manuel Eder has confirmed he will be competing in the ski division and the word is that he will be attempting tricks not seen at the Big Air before...

The FMX line up promises to impress as riders jump a 75 foot gap over the snow structure pulling aerial tricks, flips and spins. Australian Kain Saul is set to amaze the crowd with his array of back flip tricks alongside our very own top Kiwi riders. Kain rides for Crusty Demons, was the 2008 Australian Freestyle champion and has broken 16 bones. Kain is not afraid to go hard and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

This week’s 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games is playing a major role in the development of New Zealand’s Winter Olympic athletes in preparation for both January’s Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

New Zealand Olympic Committee President, Mike Stanley, said the Games provided an opportunity for the New Zealand athletes to compete against th
e best in the world on their home turf and raised the competitive bar in winter snow sports.

“Events like Winter Games give our athletes the recognition they deserve. It’s also about the promotion of winter sports as a competitive sport and the more we have this type of event, the more competitive winter sports enter the New Zealand psyche. The amount of young people who are now competing in winter events is growing as a direct result of events like Winter Games and this is part of the strategy to raise the competitive bar in winter sports, particularly snow sports.”

Stanley went on to say with the addition of ski and snowboard slopestyle and the snowboard half pipe to the Olympic programme, the Winter Games NZ are even more important to Kiwi winter athletes.

“Winter Games NZ brings the world’s Olympic and World Champion athletes to New Zealand. This exposure is invaluable for our development squads as they prepare for the Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck next year and on to Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018. Having these sports included is such an exciting opportunity for New Zealand with the athletes we have who are already established in those disciplines. It’s a unique first to be able to offer these sports in the Winter Games since the Olympic announcement and what better venue for them to take place in.

“We know a number of nations have used New Zealand as a training base for quite some time but to be able to offer a high standard competition every two years. The perception of the nations who come here has changed, New Zealand is no longer just a training venue but also a world-class competition venue. There’s a real opportunity to cement New Zealand as the preferred place for winter sports preparation and competition which has got to be of huge economic benefit to New Zealand and getting a winter of intense competition and training has to be good for our local athletes.”

100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games takes place from 12- 28 August 2011 featuring 22 snow and ice sports over 38 events and involving 1,000 elite athletes from 50 nations. The 16-day long Games also include a full Downtown Sessions festival programme featuring films, live music and entertainment and rail jam extravaganzas in Queenstown, Lake Wanaka, Dunedin and Methven. The on-snow competition will take place at Coronet Peak, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Park NZ, Snow Farm and Mt Hutt with the ice sports taking place at Naseby and Dunedin.
