Two New Events at Winter X Games 14

THURSDAY, 4 FEBRUARY 2010
Submitted By: Mariangela Silvestre

SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation, the award-winning provider of graphics, statistical and video enhancement solutions, will support ESPN’s debut of two new events, Snowmobile Knockout and SuperPipe High Air, at the Winter X Games 14 in Aspen, Colorado from January 28-31, 2010. As the official provider of real-time data and graphics publishing for 21 skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling events at Winter X Games 14, SportsMEDIA’s technology seamlessly tracks and synchronizes the broadcast of competition results both at the event and on television.

In Snowmobile Knockout, snowmobile riders who jump the shortest distance in each round will be knocked out of the competition. In SuperPipe High Air six of the world's best skiers showcase their talents as they compete in a 30-minute jam session for biggest air.

SportsMEDIA creates a competitive advantage for broadcasters by ensuring that live competition results are published simultaneously at the event and during the broadcast. This synchronization means that athletes, announcers, attendees and the viewing audience can react in unison to scores as the live events unfold.

“ESPN keeps the Winter X Games exciting by adding new events and by creating the best possible experience for fans,” said Phil Orlins, coordinating producer of ESPN Productions. “We rely on SportsMEDIA to refine our scoring methodologies for new events and to broadcast competition results to our audiences in a meaningful way. For more than 15 years, we have tapped into their knowledge and expertise. They are an integral part of producing this spectacular event.”

SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation has provided graphics, statistical and video enhancement solutions to ESPN since the inception of the X Games franchise in 1995.

“ESPN does a fantastic job of adding new events to keep the Winter X Games fresh and exciting for athletes and fans alike,” said Gerard J. Hall, founder and president of SportsMEDIA. “We are proud to play an important role in producing one of the world’s most action packed sporting events.”

“Our technology is designed to maximize the entertainment value for Winter X Games fans,” added Hall. “Whether the fans are at home or at the event, we seek to deliver the most engaging experience. Our systems go beyond just delivering scores. It’s more about the fans gaining a deeper understanding of the overall event and the implications of each athlete’s performance.”

SportsMEDIA will have 25 professionals on-site at Winter X Games 14. The crew installs the timing, scoring and judge systems that transmit the data collection into a SportsMEDIA central scoring hub database. SportsMEDIA also installs and builds the data presentation channels and operates all real-time data and graphics systems throughout the event.

Winter X Games 14 will be televised beginning on January 28, 2010 on ESPN and ESPN2.
