Saturday, 31 January 2009Apple's brand new iPhone television and Web commercial opens with, "What's great about the iPhone is that if you want to check snow conditions on the mountain, there's an app for that."
What's the app? It's Snow Reports provided by OnTheSnow.com, of course, the #1 most visited pure snow sports Web site in the world. The app costs $1.99 and can be purchased by clicking the Mobile OnTheS now tab on the top right of the home page (OnTheSnow.com) or directly from the Apple iPhone Apps Store.
Look for the ad on major television programs such as "Law And Order", "Late Night With Conan O'Brien", "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", "My Name Is Earl", "The Office" and many more, as well as on the Web.
The Snow Reports app offers the ability to create a personalized report of your favorite ski resorts worldwide. Select from among more than 2,000 resorts and track up to 16 favorite resorts. Find out if the resort is open or closed, check surface conditions, new snow, and base depths. A full report, weather conditions and forecasts and cams are one click away.
The reports are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Norwegian, and Swedish.

Friday, 30 January 2009Chaos designs warm and meaningful headwear for the Grand Targhee inaugural Mary’s Nipple Challenge “The Summit to Save Second Base,” a Breast Cancer Fundraiser to Support Oncology Fund at St. John’s Hospital.
Capitalizing on some aptly named terrain, Grand Targhee Resort is thrilled to announce the Mary’s Nipple Challenge, a new breast cancer fundraiser on Saturday January 31, 2009. Ch aos and Grand Targhee resort have created a collectors pink hat for retail at the event to further act as a fundraising avenue.
“We are honored to be thought of for this up beat event to raise awareness and much needed funding to St. John’s Hospital. There is no one I know who has not been personally touched by the challenges of breast cancer,” explains Beth Cochran, Marketing Manager at Chaos Headwear.
The centerpiece event of the fundraiser is a timed lap challenge on Mary’s Nipple, an out-of-bounds peak with advanced intermediate terrain just outside the boundary of Grand Targhee Resort. Skiers and snowboarders will hike a boot pack up to the peak of Mary’s Nipple, and ski or ride back down to the start of the hike to complete a lap. Participants will begin at noon on Saturday, January 31 and the last valid lap must be started by 3 pm at the beginning of the boot pack. The goal is to complete as many laps as possible in the three-hour time frame.
Those interested in participating on less challenging terrain are invited to accumulate laps on our 15 kilometer Nordic Trail System on cross country or skate skis, or less rigorous snowshoe laps.
Participants will have had to first gather sponsors, who will commit to either a flat sum or a “per vertical foot” donation. Sponsor forms are available at www.grandtarghee.com under EVENTS, on the Mary’s Nipple Challenge page.
An awards ceremony will take place in the main plaza at 4:30 pm, featuring special guests Annie Fenn MD and Maura Lofaro MD, who will discuss the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The ceremony will also feature local breast cancer survivors sharing their inspiring stories.
Pink CHAOS hats and Mary’s Nipple Challenge t-shirts will commemorate the event and be sold throughout the resort, with all proceeds going to the St. John’s Oncology Fund.
She Rips Weekend, a series of ladies-only alpine, snowboard, telemark and Nordic clinics will coincide with the Mary’s Nipple Fundraiser, offering the support and fun of an all-female learning environment on both Saturday and Sunday. The clinics offer discounted instruction, as well as deals on meals, drinks and spa treatments.

Friday, 30 January 2009For the 3rd time, the NIKITA Goodie Lady Session will take place in Thyon les Collons. This snowboard and freestyle ski contest, organized by Central Camps, is a ‘for girls only’ contest. Last year, girls came from all over Europe to compete in Central Park of the 4 Vallée resort. Girls from the Czech Republic and the UK joined the local girls, showing that the feminine freestyle scene is grow ing faster every year.
The NIKITA Goodie Lady Session is a slopestyle contest and girls will have the whole park to show their best tricks. The course will be made up of ten to fifteen meter jumps and several jibs. A bar will be set up on the snowpark with drinks and grilled food!
Girls can enter to win a place for the special guest list to win 200 francs (to pay for the accommodation, the trip to the contest, and food), by filling in the registration sheet online here www.centralcamps.com. This opportunity is open to everyone without exception in order to help them attend the contest in Thyon. The further the distance the girl has to travel to the event, the more favorable they will be looked upon.
NIKITA Switzerland will be supporting the contest, same as every year. The winners will share 1000 francs prize money and the official winner will win a trip to Serfaus, Austria to attend and take part in NIKITA Chickita Europe, on the 18th of April!

Thursday, 29 January 2009Not only will Nikita be celebrating a special 10 year anniversary in 2010, we will also be producing and publishing a 200 page coffee table book made largely from material sent in by Nikita girls, from all over the world.
The project begins now and it begins here! The book will celebrate and portray the lifestyle of the Nikita girl; in photos, words, poems, graphics and art, or in any which way possible. The layout of the book will be in a scrapbook style, quite raw and graphic based, edited by an Icelandic girl. She has been a lifetime Nikita customer, snowboarder, skater, graphic designer and has already produced her own book, Icepick, about the Icelandic street art scene, that Nikita helped publish nearly two years ago. Her name is Thordis Claessen.
Along with stories, people and pictures from the depths of Nikita’s archives, Nikita would like to dedicate the rest of the content to all girls who ride. Grab the opportunity to tell your own story, what you love, what you do and what Nikita means to you. Any form of entry is acceptable – this will be a coffee table book to truly represent the Nikita girl, a book about her life and something hopefully all will want to be a part of.
The story of how Nikita came about and the brains behind it, Heida Birgisdottir, the founder and head designer of the company will also be included. “Nikita has a huge fan base and really values the comments, support and input we have received from girls spanning the globe who love what we do. This will be a chance for us to say thanks and celebrate the last 10 amazing years with them too.” - Heida

Wednesday, 28 January 2009Strengthened and feeling daring after the welcome glass of champagne in the Ice Lounge, some visitors attempted to climb the Ice Tower – equipped with professional harnesses and naturally under expert instruction and supervision. Those who were not quite so far could get tips on how to jazz up their snowboard and freeski performance with freestyle guides in the neighbouring Snow Park, practice th eir freeskiing or go on a guided Freeride Tour into the wilderness.
However, the sparkling sunshine and the comfortable loungers were more than enough reasons for many to stay on the sun deck, chill out with the finest DJ sounds and simply enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the ICE CAMP.
While day visitors had to leave the Kitzsteinhorn as evening approached, for the overnight guests, the program had just begun. After an archery session the Volvo XC ICE CAMP visitors gathered together at a round dining table to eat a “Tartar-hat” (a raclette-like meal where meat is grilled on a brazier). Anyone who wanted to stretch their legs after such a hearty meal could go for a walk under the stars to gaze down at the valley and Lake Zeller from the viewing platform.
Serious partying and dancing followed in the Ice Bar and the new whirlpool with a view of the Kitzsteinhorn was broken in. Cold feet could be thawed in the hot water or the gentler warmth of the sauna before the guests snuggled under the reindeer furs to let themselves unwind and the day’s impressions sink in slowly.
The next morning bright blue skies lured the visitors out of their thermal sleeping bags to the newly prepared and still empty slopes. Another day at the Volvo XC ICE CAMP presented by Nokia could begin.
