The Snowbird and the Deseret Morning News recently announced that the snowboarding program of their Deseret Morning News/KSL Ski School will be postponed for a week.

According to the program organizers, the delay is mainly due to limited open terrain. The participants of th
e said snowboarding program have met for their introductory lesson last November 17.

However, due to the limited terrain, organizers were forced to delay the second meeting for another week, since it involves hands-on snowboarding. This is to ensure that the program participants will fully benefit from the second part of the program.

The second class for snowboarders has been set for December 8 and 15.

Freestyle, the original action sports watch manufacturer, announces its search for a new team rider. In conjunction with Loop'd.com, Freestyle is hosting a contest called "Are You Next?" which will ultimately result in a year-long athlete sponsorship for one lucky winner.

Start
ing on November 28, 2007, athletes throughout North America will have a chance to win a coveted spot on Freestyle's official athlete roster. Surfers, wakeboarders, skateboarders, snowboarders, mountain bikers, bmx and motocross riders will submit their best action video or photo of themselves. Each week, for 12 weeks total, Freestyle will sort through every entry and pick one photo and one video winner weekly. Winners will then be entered to win the grand prize.

Weekly winners will receive a Freestyle prize pack including a watch worth up to $150.00, a t-shirt, wristband, hat and sticker packs. Should the contestants not win one week, they'll have a chance to submit another photo or video the next week, resulting in 12 chances to impress Freestyle and win. The grand prize winner, announced on February 29, 2007, will receive a one-year sponsorship including six watches per year, team t-shirts, hats, accessories, stickers as well as a photo and contest incentive bonus package. The winner will be well-represented by Freestyle with a profile on www.FreestyleUSA.com and a banner ad on the Freestyle homepage.

"The 'Are You Next?' contest is a great way for aspiring action sport athletes to gain exposure and take their game to the next level," said Freestyle Marketing Director, Chad LaBass. "A lot of these athletes live in areas that make it difficult to connect with sponsors, but by reaching out through the loopd.com social network we are giving them opportunity to make their presence known." Freestyle receives hundreds of emails each month with sponsorship inquiries. This contest gives athletes a chance to not just ask for a sponsorship but to prove that they are worthy of one. It is a great stepping stone for the winner to possibly earn a paid sponsorship by Freestyle for years to come.

Freestyle is looking for quality videos and photos. If possible, contestants should work with an experienced videographer or photographer to up their chances of being selected. Showing Freestyle some love will help too. Wearing a Freestyle watch or t-shirt and displaying Freestyle stickers on boards, bikes and helmets are great ways to catch the judges' eye. Contestants should stay on top of the game and see what they're up against by checking back to the site each week to compare their entries with the winning videos and photos.

Check out the contest details and submissions on freestylecontest.loopd.com. For some great inspiration for contest videos and photos check out Freestyle's impressive roster of athletes at www.FreestyleUSA.com.

The Snowboard Outreach Society recently announced that aside from snowboarding, they will now incorporate skiing in their program to develop kid’s character and self-esteem.

KETCHUM, Idaho – When the Jeep King of the Mountain Series, a 15-year-old professional snowsports series, joined forces with The Ski Tour / Basecamp Music Experience, an event that blends music and world-class competition, the result was the birth of a movement that kicks off in Telluride, Colo. on December 14-16.

Highlights of the weekend-long festival include:

  • Multiple Music Acts Each Night

While the world’s top ski and snowboard racers, including many current and future Olympians hit the snow in pursuit of ski cross and snowboard cross crowns, the action will be complemented by a weekend-long Base Camp Music Experience, designed to celebrate the mountain culture through music acts, fashion shows, film and photography exhibits, environmental awareness symposiums and other cross-cultural initiatives. A sampling of the well-known performers include Macy Gray, Blackalicious, Swollen Members, Danielia Cotton, Dirtie Blond, Steven Kellogg and the Sixers and many more.

The Jeep King of the Mountain Series will feature four-competitor ski-cross and snowboard-cross format sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Additional snowboard halfpipe and ski halfpipe competitions will showcase the progression of two of the fastest growing segments in winter sports.

Additional host sites for the new series include February 8-10 in Squaw Valley, Calif., and March 14-16 in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The Telluride stop of the Jeep King of the Mountain Series will be televised to a national broadcast audience on December 29, 2007 and January 12, 2008 on CBS Sports.
