First Tracks!! Online Media (FTO), publisher of the Internet’s popular First Tracks!! Online Ski Magazine, earlier this month launched its newest electronic offering dedicated to the plethora of skiing and s nowboarding opportunities available across Utah. UtahSkiAndSnowboard.com is now online, offering valuable insight into the state’s snow sports industry to visitors and locals alike.

“Utah has the best skiing and riding in the nation, and probably the world,” says Marc Guido, the site’s editor. “Based here in Salt Lake City, we’re uniquely positioned to help spread the word.”

Mr. Guido relocated FTO to Utah in early 2005 from Albany, N.Y. He explains that Utah snow and the proximity of its ski resorts to the city were the two primary influencing factors in that decision. “I grew tired of flying out here all the time, so I pulled up stakes and moved the business,” he says smiling. “Besides, back East you may drive hours to reach the slopes from major population centers. Here, the Wasatch Mountains are on the city’s doorstep. This proximity of world-class skiing to a major population center is replicated nowhere else in the North America.”

With winter upon us, those who are active need to prepare for the cold conditions or risk injuries, warns Sports Medicine Australia (SMA). Hospital data shows an increase of more than 30% for sporting injuri es during winter months. Exercising or playing sport in cold conditions can lead to injuries such as sprains, strains and blisters and in extreme cold conditions snow blindness, frostbite and hypothermia can occur.

Sports Physician and SMA President, Dr Bruce Mitchell says wintry conditions should not be a barrier to exercising. All that is needed is good preparation. “Exercising in cold weather no doubt places extra demands on the body, which can lead to reduced sporting performance and injuries. However, this doesn’t mean you have to stop exercising in winter. Most cold-related injuries can be prevented with good preparation and the correct equipment,” said Dr Mitchell.

To help prepare for winter sports, Sports Medicine Australia offers timely tips that can be found on www.pando.com.au. Visit the link for more information.

This winter ski season, Australian families are packing their bags and heading off to New Zealand. While there are a lot of ski resorts in the South Island, Treble Cone is undeniably the best choice when it comes to catering for the entire family.

Treble Cone offers a wide range of world class facilities and snow school options that will make sure that all members of the family will have an awesome alpine experience. Whether it’s the Tom Thumb beginner or the family’s star snowboarder at TC, this season its all about winter fun.

The resort specializes in first-rate learner facilities for children and adults designed to ensure progression to more challenging terrain. Private lessons are available and first time children’s classes are always conducted in groups no bigger than five to ensure a quality introduction to the sport. First timers’ classes are also available for adults and all classes come with a money-back guarantee if improvement and satisfaction are not met.

In addition, Treble Cone’s childcare center is a fully supervised indoor facility designed with kids in mind, which means a great range of books and activities.

The TC Cat Club is hugely successful. This full day program includes four hours on snow, and a supervised lunch with the coach from 10:15 am to 3:30 pm. Parents can enjoy the slopes for themselves and know they are in safe hands.

Uncrowded slopes mean that families are safe and get maximum time on the snow (instead of waiting in queues), with more room on slopes to get those wide turns flowing. With the help of professionally trained coaches from around the globe, along with Treble Cone’s natural terrain & slopes gradation, children learn to turn quicker & gain more control of their skis & speed. With these skills, they will be safe and have fun on slopes at any ski resort in the world.
