6th Bud Light Spring Jam on Mar. 16-19

THURSDAY, 16 MARCH 2006

Today, Aspen/Snowmass kicks off the spring festivities with the 6th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam, combining new school competitions, concerts, parties and artistic expression that will last until March 19.

New events such as the FusionPark Invitational and Terrain Park Bootcamp add extra excitement to a stellar line-up. The new rail sliding/skateboarding event and big air competitions will feature top skiing and snowboarding athletes. In addition, the Terrain Park Bootcamp will be there to give skiers and snowboarders the chance to learn how to throw down new tricks, ride rails and catch air from their favorite athletes for FREE.

As always, music will play a key role during Spring Jam providing constant entertainment. This year, along with long time Colorado favorites, The Freddy Jones Band, Spring Jammers will be treated to Flipsyde and MC Supernatural, playing with North Coast Underground.

All events and activities during the 6th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam are free and open to the public.

Thursday, March 16

7 pm

Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert featuring the Freddy Jones Band at Snowmass Village Mall: The Freddy Jones Band will bring their original sound, influenced by Chicago style rock and blues, to Fanny Hill in Snowmass Village. Always hugely popular in Colorado, their last appearance in Snowmass was a sold-out, co-headline show with Widespread Panic. Atlanta based guitarist Sam Thacker will open the show. Thacker has built a loyal following across the southeast and is poised to make a splash on the national scene.

Friday, March 17

St. Patty's Day Celebration/Bud Light Big Air Competition at Snowmass Village Mall: Bud Light Spring Jam celebrates St. Patty"s Day with a raucous party at Snowmass. It’s time to don your green party hat and kick up your heels at this all-Irish celebration! All the action takes place at the base area including kids’ activities, Celtic Dancers, a special Bud Light Big Air comp open to any Leprechauns who can qualify on the jump, and green beer all day long.

Moreover, attendees can expect the following: the Scavenger Hunts for Adults and Children, Jammin; Jim the Juggler, Pipe and Drum Performances, Bud Light Big Air Competiion on Fanny Hill, performances from Great American Taxi and Sweet Sunny South and a spectacular fireworks display.

7 – 9 pm

FusionPark Invitational at Rio Grande Skatepark in downtown Aspen: The Rio Grande skatepark will be transformed into a first-ever showdown of ski & snowboard rail-sliding and skateboarding competitions performed simultaneously to live rap performances. Prizes will be awarded for individual categories and to an overall combined rail and skateboarding champion who proves they have what it takes in both disciplines. The overall winner will receive two round trip airline tickets, compliments of Stay AspenSnowmass, in addition to the prize money.

Featuring Live Performances by MC Supernatural and members of North Coast Underground: In addition, MC Supernatural, a fabled freestyler and battle vet from New York City, has been featured on stage with groups as disparate as J5 and Linkin Park. The FusionPark event will team him with 2 MCs and the DJ from North Coast Underground, a hip/hop band with a huge following in the action sports world.

Saturday, March 18

7th Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational at Aspen Mountain: One of the most anticipated events of the year, the KickAspen Big Air showcases the best regional ski and snowboard athletes competing under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain for $7,000 in prize money! Prize giveaways, beer garden, freestyle dancers, graffiti panels and a DJ will round out the action at the base area. The 1st place ski and snowboard winners will receive two round trip airline tickets, compliments of Travelocity, in addition to the prize money.

8:30 pm – 11 pm

CORE Party at Cooper & Galena Streets with Live Performance by Flipsyde: The heart of downtown Aspen becomes a one-of-a-kind fete featuring a huge concert, breakdancers, graffiti artists, special effects, a beer garden benefiting the Aspen Valley Ski Club and giant video screens which take the action late into the night.

Flipsyde is a red hot up-and-coming hip hop group poised to breakout while touring with the Black Eyed Peas and Pussycat Dolls this summer. The Core Party marks their first Aspen appearance since they wowed the crowd as the opening act for Damian Marley at this year’s Après X concert. Flipsyde’s music is an unconventional, yet harmonious mix of styles. Their innovative sound combines straight-up hip hop with bursts of rock influence.

FREE—Terrain Park Bootcamp for Beginners at Snowmass on Fanny Hill: After watching the action at the FusionPark and KickAspen Big Air Invitational, go out and learn for yourself. New to the event line-up this year is a bootcamp-style training ground where you can learn to throw down tricks like your favorite pros…FOR FREE! Never-evers can learn to slide rails or hit their first mini air jump under the watchful eye of elite local and regional coaches. Just show up anytime between noon and 3 pm at the Bud Light Spring Jam Terrain Park located on Fanny Hill. Open to terrain park rookies ages 13 & up. Helmets are required as well as a valid lift ticket or pass.
