TaiSPO Exhibition Area Focus The 2010 Winter Olympics recently held in Vancouver, Canada, reminded us how “hot” winter sports are. Despite the fact that not everybody can name more than five events in the international competition, most agree that the speed and grace of winter sports is thrilling and beautiful to watch.

For a long time, winter sports such as skiing and ice skating were considered the domain of the
rich and inhabitants of ‘the Frigid Zone.’ However, as many winter resorts become more affordable, even people from snow-free countries such as Taiwan are starting to take skiing vacations in Asian countries including Japan and South Korea, as well as in more traditional European locations.

During the Taipei International Sporting Goods Show (TaiSPO) -- to be held between April 29 and May 2 at the NANGANG Exhibition Hall of the Taiwan World Trade Center -- Taiwan’s sports equipment manufacturers will display their latest skiing and skating products to visitors.

Contrary to all expectations, Taiwanese companies have been producing high quality winter sports equipment for years. Aswan International Corp. (Booth # J0711a) which has 30 years of manufacturing experience under its belt, produces skiing eye protection gear such as safety glasses and goggles, ear muffs, and face shields. Aswan will showcase its latest products in the TaiSPO’s Skiing & Skating section.

Charlton Co. Ltd, (Booth # J0612) a manufacturer of snowboards, surfboards and bindings for snowboards, wakeboards and kiteboards, will also exhibit in the Skiing & Skating section. The company produces almost 100 different products and its booth will be a must for visitors interested in high-quality gear.

Sports equipment innovators have long been translating the skiing and skating experience to people in the tropical zone. Good Ball Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. (Booth # I0510) produces a wide range of sporting goods including bicycles/tricycles, exercise bikes, treadmills, children’s sports goods, balls, sports equipment material, skates and in-line skates, and Frisbees.

Its specially designed and produced ice and inline skates, such as the IC-199 and the CS-RS-1473, provide the best indoor skating and outdoor inline skating experience --even in snow-free countries such as Taiwan. The company’s 300 plus high quality designs are manufactured using the finest materials to guarantee the smoothest and safest experience for customers.

Fellow innovator, Cloud-drift Co. Ltd., (Booth # J0707a) produces inline skates and scooters as well as protective gear, making it possible to skate even in countries such as Taiwan, which rarely see snow or ice.

Meanwhile TAISPO’s Sporting Balls and Golf Equipment section will provide a platform for Taiwan’s entrepreneurs and innovators to present such items as quality balls, as well as innovative devices, gear and sports equipment. Taiwan has no lack of fervent lovers of ball games. Many islanders regard baseball as the soul of the nation, and also closely follow basketball, soccer, tennis and golf.

The Taiwanese love to both watch and participate in ball sports, and it is not uncommon to see people lining up for their turn during a basketball game, whilst 8-year-olds play catch with their parents on the grasslands near by. Golf courses and practice ranges are also mushrooming across the island.

A healthy population and OEM experience have helped Taiwan to become a world leader in the manufacturing of balls. Many companies producing balls and other sports equipment will lay out their latest innovations and products at the TaiSPO.

Hi-Star Co. Ltd. (Booth # I0910) has devoted many of its resources to the innovative design of its wide range of products including its ingeniously designed reversible pool table, which doubles as a table for other games. The company also designed a mechanic pool table which collects and returns balls automatically.

One of the 25-year-old company’s most original and popular designs is its basketball practical rack -- a device consisting of a basket and a foldable net, which catches the ball so the player does not have to run around to retrieve it. When folded, the device, which can be hung on the wall, occupies the same amount of space as an average-sized painting, making it a convenient for people living in urban areas.

A’Striker Enterprise Co., Ltd. (Booth # I1005) specializes in all kinds of rubber and synthetic leather (PVC & PU) covered balls in official sizes and weights. The company produces a wide range of balls for games including basketball, soccer, volleyball, dodge ball, rugby, and balls for the playground, as well as other high quality accessories.
