Wir Schanzen 2012: The 5ive Barbecue/Nesselwang 65 participants had taken the trip to the 5ive Alpspitzpark on last Saturday 4 February 2012 to take part in the Wir Schanzen kick-off „The 5ive Barbecue“. Despite bone-chilling cold the atmosphere was excellent amongst the riders. Mixed with good sound and yummy BBQ steaks this made an excellent contest day. Besides the fIrst clips for the video clash have been shot at The 5ive Barbecue and they are waiting for a “Like”.

In old The 5ive Barbecue manner the riders could register for the contest on late Saturday afternoon. The hosts were happy to welcome so many young rookies to the fIrst tour stop of the Wir Schanzen. After successful accreditation they all quickly made their way to the park to make the most of the extra-long training time. The setup was very diverse with different jibs and two kickers in line. For the little shredders there was an additional Easy-Setup with butterboxes and smaller kickers. And there was another “special” stood at the Inrun – Ride snowboard-pro Sebi Geiger was waiting for the kids to help them with tips before their runs.

With plenty of good food from the grill and warm drinks there was a terrifIc and relaxed atmosphere in the 5ive Alpspitzpark. All riders did their best as in the end prizes of Ride Snowboards, Line Skis and the 5ive Skateshop as well as 500 Euros prize money and important Wir Schanzen points were waiting for the winners. This year the Wir Schanzen will send the overall winners of the men categories to a oneweek surf camp to Bali (www.kamafari-surfcamp.com).

In the Snowboard Men category 5ive teamrider Michael Botzenhart dominated the starting fIeld with his sick tricks on the rails and with his diversifIed and creative spins on the kickers. Rookie shredder Maximilian Preisinger convinced in the U16 class. Max Grünwald and the little sister of snowboard-pro Ehtan Morgan, Annika Morgan were on top of the U12 podium. Here is the link - http://vimeo.com/36400415.

The Freeskiers’ class was controlled by the Austrians. Andreas Gohl won in the men’s category and Marco Ladner was the winner of the kids. Previous year’s winner Sabrina Cakmakli could again make it to the top of the girls’ podium. Here is the link - http://vimeo.com/36363568.

At The 5ive Barbecue the fIrst clips for the video clash were shot. Now it is all about Snowboarding vs. Freeskiing. Watch the videos and let the better clip earn fame and glory! The clip with the most “Likes” wins the clash which will start into the next round at the Jungle Fever. Both videos can be found on www.wirschanzen.de.

There is not much time to breathe as the Wir Schanzen will move to the Thuringian Forest to get the Jungle Fever started on 18 February 2012. Chilled contest atmosphere with decent beats and yummy BBQ are the ingredients for an unforgettable weekend. The afterparty will start immediately after the contest in the garage nearby, entrance free! That sounds like a lot of fun!

Van Penken Park Mayrhofen Pro Area Shred-Action No worries that any freestylers will be bored in the Vans Penken Park in Mayrhofen. The park, especially the pro area, is one of the top addresses for freestyle pros from around the world. In particular, the 3 giant kickers with the massive airtime provide a lot enthusiasm and lure snowboard pros to the park again and again!

Peter König, Mayrhofen local, is at least twice a week in
the Vans Penken Park and with 13 years of snowboarding experience he knows exactly what’s important: "What makes the pro area of the Vans Penken Park so special is that you can have a lot of runs, because of the direct lift connection and you have the best view for watching the others shredding the park!“ In the video edit you can see Peter König, Mario Wanger and Tom Klocker preparing theirselfs for the next day’s Air&Style.

The creative set-up of the Pro Area includes a kicker line with 3 jumps with 16, 18 and 20m tables as well as a rich supply of rails. Peter tells us: "My absolute personal highlight is the fat 20m kicker! The shapes of the kickers are perfect and the jumps are even higher than last year. Nice airtime, jumps and landings fit well and you feel save with it! The shape team seriously did their job!”

It’s not surprising that the professional elite turns it’s runs in the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen that often. After the Air&Style 2012 international pros like Peetu Piiroinen, Jamie Nicholls, Peter and Kevin Backstrom came to the Vans Penken Park and showed their best tricks in front of the camera. TWO FIFTY Masters Feldberg – Ice, Ice Baby At a more than just chilling minus 20 degree centigrade, the riders rocked the Bohny Snowpark Feldberg last Saturday! Our respect goes to the riders, who, despite the Siberian cold, managed to show us some serious freestyle action in the perfectly shaped park. The atmosphere in the Bohny Snowpark Feldberg was anything but frosty, though: the local freestyle fans did their very best to cheer for t he riders! After several drinks had frozen to popsicles, the rider warmed themselves up with aerobic sessions in the chill area, drinking tea and short stops in the Schirmbar.

All in all, a lot of locals took part in the contest! But not just the local heroes came to the Feldberg, also a few Austrians took the long journey to Feldberg and came from as far as Pinzgau just to be part of the TWO FIFTY Masters!

The experiences we made in Germany? Our neighbours may not have the highest mountains, but they’ve sure got loads of motivated riders, an eager community and the absolutely massive Bohny Snowpark Feldberg - we already look forward to visit the Black Forest again next year!

Seppe Smits wins at 2012 TTR Big Air World Tour Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) wins the 6Star Billabong Air&Style with steady Backside 1260 mute grabs all evening long. Seppe Smits (BEL) takes the TTR Big Air Tour Trophy 2012 home, after coming in second here at the Bergisel Stadium in Innsbruck, closely followed by Niklas Mattsson (SWE).

'Winning the Big Air Tour Trophy was unexpected, I was very happily surprised.' commented Seppe Smits. C
ongratulations came immediately from 3 time TTR Tour winner Peetu, who won tonight with a clean and stylish Backside 1260 mute grab. Peetu is back after wrestling with injury, but is again landing all his tricks with his exceptional ease. He responded: 'It was a great night, and it felt really good being here. This was definitely one of the hardest competitions for me, with everyone stomping it.'

Under icy conditions 12.500 spectators set fire to the Bergisel stadium for one of the most thrilling Air&Style competitions ever. A gripping final was the perfect conclusion of an action packed night. With final scores not more than 0.6 points apart, it was clear the riders gave it their all. Peetu Piiroinen took home the ring of glory and another 1000 points for the World Tour Rankings. More surprising action was put down by Swedish Niklas Mattsson, who rounded up the podium after holding his own against 3 clear favorite opponents in the final, including former Air&Style winner Sebastien Toutant (CAN). Niklas got the crowd to go wild with his second run, a Frontside 1080 Double Cork Mute Grab.

Eric Willett (USA) earned the second highest score of the night with a Switch Backside 1260 Double Cork Mute Grab, worth 94.0 points, but failed to make the Superfinal after encountering Peetu Piiroinen in the second round. He had the biggest chance of winning the TTR World Tour Big Air title, but missing the Superfinal tonight, meant he had to watch Seppe claim the championship. Tonight's performances had a major influence on the TTR Overall Tour Ranking, with Seb Toutant now leading the pack, and Stale Sandbech (NOR), Roope Tonteri (FIN), Seppe Smits and Eric Willett all move up, rounding up the top 5.

The TTR World Tour will move to Oslo, Norway from 10-19 February, crowning male and female Halfpipe and Slopestyle World Champions at the first World Snowboarding Championships for snowboarders by snowboarders since 1999.
