STEP 1: In traversing using the heel edge, look towards the direction where you want to go. This is one of the most crucial things that you should do when traversing. Spread your arms to help in keeping your balance. |

STEP 2: Then, turn your head and upper body towards the direction you wish to travel to. Shift more weight on your leading foot and move together with your other foot. Remember to keep the board angled downhill but only slightly. |

STEP 3: Return your Snowboard to its original position across the fall line. Get ready to move to the other side of the slope. Look towards the direction where you want to go. |

STEP 4: Just like in Step 2, turn your head and upper body towards the direction you wish to travel to. Shift more weight on your leading foot and move together with your other foot. Remember to keep the board angled downhill but only slightly. |

Very useful site - thank you.
My only criticism:
"Return your Snowboard to its original position across the fall line" is not very informative! :P

sami,
i agree. i am a total newbie and i can understand the concept of how to slow down and stop from the sideslipping instructions previously given. however, i am terrified at moving sideways and knowing what to do at that point. i can''t understand the motions of how to stop in the sideways position.
how are you slowing and braking at the end of your traverse?

I''m a relative newbie ma selfbut I''ve had a few lessons and from what I know you put more weight on you back leg so it becomes level again.

When traversing with is the same as Diagonal side slipping yes, to get back back level and stop just look forward and the board will side slide with out going accross the slope or you can even slow down whist traversing by just using the brake more the most important thing to remember is which ever way you look is the way you go by looking in any direction your body automatically goes to the position needed to go in the direction your looking only difference is when looking forward you will side slide when looking forward with all your wait on the front foot your board will go vertically down hill then look to the side or just behind you over your shoulder either way and you will return back to toe or heel slide depending on which way you look and whether your regular or goofy stanced. The most important thing is just keep your head up never look at your feet just look where you want to go and you''ll go and keep arms at your side or the off balance caused will make you fall if any more help is needed just ask I''m happy to help I was learning my self just a few months back and now I''m pretty good, took me 2 3 hour lessons to be perfuming linked turns from top of slope to bottom without falling and only that fast because I listened an looked where I wanted to go. Many people panic and look down at their feet or wave their arms about until you relax and look you won''t progress very fast I now just go snowdome once a month to practice

Traversing is a great skill to have. I find that doing hop turns on steep hills helps me get traversing the other way. Thanks for sharing!
