Hey all. My buddies and I are seriously considering a spring break trip to Lake Tahoe in March (we''re on the east coast). I was just wondering how Heavenly is in the winter?? I''ve only been there during the summer months. Also, how easy is it to get to Tahoe (i.e. chains, etc.)?? How does the riding in the west compare with riding in the east (VT)?? Thanks!

Heavenly is the biggest resort in the Tahoe area, so you'll definitely find a lot of variety there. It's straddles the Nevada/California border, so it's kinda cool to say that you boarded in two different states on the same day. The views are killer, and the parks, while sparse, are pretty good.
If you're a beginner, I don't really recommend it though. There are a lot of flats, especially on the Nevada side, and it gets hard sometimes going from place to place. For intermediates/experts, Heavenly is perfect.
It's in South Lake Tahoe, right next to the major casinos, which is a plus. Heavenly has the best apres ski fun I've seen anywhere in lake tahoe. Where would you flying in from, Reno? Or lake tahoe? Either way its easy to get to Heavenly from either one. There are shuttles all throughout Reno, so that part should be no problem. It's also near a well traveled freeway (Highway 50), so road closures are rare. There are also a couple of other resorts nearby, which i recommend more than Heavenly.

If riding is wrong, then I dont wanna be right!

yeah my uncle owns a vaca house up there so we're gonna use that for the week. we'd be flying into Sacramento and most likely taking 50 to get there. how's the mountain "traffic" mid week?? heavenly is pretty big, so i can't imagine the trails being too crowded. so would you recommend boarders stick to the cali side since there's a lot of traverses on the NV side??

Proedge Snowboard Lessons is a company based in Lake Tahoe that strives to give you the best private snowboard lesson experience possible for the right price. Our in-depth lessons are for your convenience. We will meet you at the mountain of your choice and at your desired time (which means you can sleep in on your vacation if you want to and you don't have a set time you HAVE to be at the mountain). We also take LAST MINUTE appointments (including, upon availability, morning of). Our Pricing is PER LESSON not per person, which means that you can bring up to 7 people with you to your lesson for no additional charge. In other words you can split the cost with your friends, family or maybe just another family that you sat next to in line at the casino. Remember these lessons are private lessons so it will be only people that YOU invite to be in the lesson. We teach all snowboard ability levels from FIRST DAY on snow and learning to turn to riding halfpipe, jumping and hitting rails in the snowboard park. Our lessons are taught by professional snowboard coaches and snowboarders who have been taught by the best and are eager to pass that knowledge on to you. We have been teaching snowboarding professionally for 5 years and have been riding for 12+ years. What does this mean to you? Whether you are goofy (right foot forward) or regular (left foot forward) we can ride both ways to demonstrate to you what we are teaching. After your first run with us, we assess your riding skills, stance angles, stance width on your board and make any necessary changes and suggestions. (One issue that keeps people from progressing is not having their snowboard setup custom to their body type.) *PROEDGE PRICING* (PER LESSON NOT PER PERSON) Up to 7 people 1 hour - $80 2 hours - $160 3 hours - $230 4 hours - $300 5 hours - $360 6 hours - $420 If you have any questions about Proedge, please give us a call at (530) 368-6603 or email us at: proedgesnow@gmail.com For More information visit our website at: http://www.PROEDGESNOW.com

Good luck man,

I'm fairly certain offering private lessons like that is considered a federal offense; I've heard of people doing some good jail time and paying some hefty fines all because they wanted to coach outside of a resort's established ski school.

I snowboarded heavenly mountain this past weekend. http://www.scoutlookweather.com/skiconditions reported 2" of new snow fall in the last 48 hours. The powder was pretty packed, but I had a nice run. I also have a family friend with a cabin up there so I didn't have to worry about the resort. I've never been in March but I def want to return to Heavenly at some point. Enjoy your spring break shredding on the mountain! x
