An Ollie is essential to any snowboarder.. before you can pull any aerial tricks on a snowboard you must know how to Ollie. The good thing to know is.. its pretty easy and with a little instruction and practice you should be pulling them off in no time! Follow our step by step guide to Ollie(ing) like a pro! Pulling an Ollie is all about balance, shifting your weight and lift.
#1: Find yourself a clear area with a gentle slope. Important because you want to be moving slowly or not at all when you practice this. And making sure the area is clear will mean you wont go smashing into any innocent bystanders when you first attempt it☺;
#2: Bend your legs, and move your weight to your back foot. Looking down at your board might help in the initial stages with balance.
#3: Move more weight onto your back foot, so basically your front foot has no pressure at all. Lift the nose of your Snowboard with your front foot into the air and in one motion push off with your back foot, and use the tail as a spring to get you in the air. Once your in the air, raise your knees to your chest. This will help to center the board in the air.
#4: Landing should be the easy part ☺;, you can land front foot first, followed very closely by your back foot. Or both legs at the same time.. again make sure to bend your knees when you land. This will help to soften the landing.
#5: That’s it.. you have just done an Ollie! Practice makes perfect! Try and try again… Once you master performing the Ollies, you can learn other aerial tricks and maneuvers.
