or you could just post in the general snowboarding or techniques and styles forums and get advice from everyone, including the super members who would look at it anyway.

I know this is a thread for Q and A but I though I would give a belated update on the trip to Chile...  The mountains were big the runs were long and the pow was deep.  Could not have had better conditions for two straight weeks of untracked lines.  Connected with some european riders who were shooting for a magazine article and rode through chutes that would make any rider think twice then drool.

Hey Chris, glad youre back in one piece and that you had a killer time. Looking forward to this season at Meadows. I will be going for the cert 2 this year. I hope we can ride together a couple of times to clinic. I would like to meet up with you early in the season for an eval so I can have some focus areas to really work on. "Tic" is`nt working this year, his knee just is giving up the ghost and he had a bad motorcycle accident this spring. We`ll all miss him greatly up there....

I will be around on a very limited basis this season but I would be stoked to ride with you our earliest convenience.  Level II is an easy hurtle if you are going feeling like its just a check up wrather than a huge climb.  From what I hear you'lll do well.  I'll be spending a lot of time down at Northstar this season building a new academy program for Burton.  You would be more that welcome to come shred with me anytime down there, I'll have a ticket waiting for ya.  Sorry to hear about tic he is a good guy and has spent a lifetime trying to make our sport more fun out there at hood.  We need more people who want to share this sport with others it's always a bummer to loose one for any reason.  Pray for snow and smiling faces...

Question:

I am doing a season in Big White in Canada and want to buy my own board, bindings and gear.  As I have never been snowboarding before I need some advice on brands and stuff.

I am currently tossing up between the 'Flow' bindings and toe caps.  Which do you think is better for a complete beginner?

Also are there any boards that are going to be better for me to get then others, I don't want to get a complete beginner board as I feel I may out grow it (experience wise) before the end of the season and don't want to have to buy a new one part way through.

Cheers for your help fellas.

Well, a couple things to take into consideration for your board.

As for the toecaps vs. flows, as a beginner i thinks flows would be better. They are very user friendly, save time and not to mention work pretty well. Te only advantage to toe caps over flows is toecaps can be fairly cheaper, as flows are expensive. You also have to think, toe caps are pulling your heel closer to your back of your binding, which is your control point. So toe caps are more responsive, as flows are much more convenient and still a great deal. Its all up to you, convenience or a little better response.

As for the board, i am not sure what kind of learner you are. I also have no idea how tall you are, your age, weight (Im probably stepping to far so merit that last one if you so please). All those factors have an impact on what kind of board is best on you. Try to go to a board shop and tell them your dilemma. If they steer you to a $500 board, tell them to try again. lol. Your looking for a board with biaxle core and probably an sintered base. This is an intermediate board, one that you can learn in, and also progress with out growing out of.

Thats about all I can say. Good luck with everything!

They call me Willie (Vee-lay), and Im here to ride..

You get to spend a season in Canada... Lucky!  Hit us back with the kind of riding that you hope to learn and some other details like your weight and height.  Most important things to focus on with your purchase are a board that you can bend when you ride, bindings that fit your boot and allow you to bend your ankles, and boots that are not to stiff.  If there is anything you want to know about burton products I would be happy to fill you in.  If you don't have specific questions about the product that you are thinking about buying then try to dig a little deeper before you purchase.  Don't rush your choice because there are so many options out there you want to get gear that won't over power you.  Good luck!

Also what do you do when the hill has a bad slope and you end up going through trees.
