CairnGorm Mountain
Since 1961, CairnGorm Mountain has been a major winter sports destination and still offers skiers and boarders some of the best and most challenging runs in Scotland. Added to that, it now has the only mountain railway in Scotland with skiers and boarders arriving at the Top Station, close to the higher lying snowfields, in total comfort only a few minutes after having boarded the CairnGorm Funicular at the Base Station.
Whether you are a complete beginner or want to perfect your blading, skiing or boarding, Amanda and Mike at The Ski School or Simon and Sharon at Zippy Boarding School can meet your needs. Group and private lessons are available on a full or half day basis. If you have any individual requirements, they will do their best to accommodate you. Video analysis, race training and instructor training are also available. Please call 01479 861319 for information and bookings.
A huge range of modern carving skis, blades, snowboards, boots, clothing and helmets to suit all ages and sizes is available in the Day Lodge. Trained technicians will kit you out for a day on the slopes (they will need to know your weight, height and shoe size!). Please arrive in good time as it can be very busy and don’t forget a deposit will be required! Small items such as socks, gloves, hats and goggles can be purchased in our shops.
In the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, the UK’s highest award winning mountain railway, exhibition & restaurant provide year round inspiration, adventure and fun for everyone, no matter what age or physical ability.

| General |
CairnGorm Mountain is home to Scotland's only mountain railway and the highest in the UK providing the main form of uplift for skiers & boarders and also non-skiing visitors year round, transporting them to 1097m in complete comfort.
CairnGorm Mountain is divided into zones - The Day Lodge Zone, The Lady Zone, the Cas Zone, the Beginner Zone and the Ciste Zone, with uplift provided by the mountain railway and a mixture of t-bars and pomas.
Facilities at the Base Station level include the newly opened Cas Bar, Mountain Shop, Ticket sales, equipment collection and both The Ski School and Zippy Boarding Schools. In the Top Station, the mountain exhibition, Shop at the Top and Ptarmigan Restaurant provide lots to do and see for skiers and non skiers alike. |
| Skiing | CairnGorm Mountain has around 32km pisted runs (in good conditions) with around a third of this designated 'beginner' areas. The main Beginner Zone is located in the Ptarmigan Bowl at the top of the mountain which has very easy access from the mountain railway and tends to hold snow very well, even in marginal conditions. There are also many more challenging runs available for the more experienced skier. | | Snowboarding | CairnGorm is committed to building, when practical, a Terrain Park for snowboarders and skiers, offering jumps, rail slides and other features. The terrain park has four volunteers who help with its construction, maintenance and the education of users. Building a terrain park requires a deep snow depth and, CairnGorm being the exposed mountain that it is, requires significant snow falls. In recent years, the terrain park has moved from the top of Coire Cas to the top of the Ptarmigan Bowl where snow depth has tended to be greater. |
