Fulfill all of your backcountry snowboarding dreams in one of the most remote areas in Europe on our Norwegian tour by boat! Each morning on this eight-day tour of Norway, you`ll wake up to a new view aboard our ship, after having cruised overnight through the fjords of the most breathtaking mountain ridge of the Arctic Circle, and spend the rest of the day snowboarding through knee-deep powder down to the water`s edge. Take advantage of our backcountry skills program during this incredible trip. Our team will make sure to teach you how to choose safe runs on a backcountry slope, assess avalanche risk, and learn all about avalanche rescue. This program is not rigid or too formal, so you`ll have the flexibility to take part in as much as you want, but rest assured, you`ll leave with some very valuable knowledge of how to safely navigate the backcountry. Experiencing an area considered to be one of the most sought-after goals by the world`s best snowboarding fanatics, our trip will show you the majesty of the Arctic mountains, the last untouched winter frontier in Europe.

Our Norway trip is the ideal opportunity for you to develop your backcountry skills and knowledge. Our instructors are qualified mountain guides with extensive backcountry experience. During the course of our week in the backcountry our instructors will work with you to develop your backcountry knowledge by covering such areas as: transceiver use, evaluating snow conditions and snowpack, picking backcountry lines, traveling safely over glaciers, preparing for backcountry trips, and other backcountry safety skills. They will also get you up to speed with using snowshoes. Riding in the backcountry is one of the ultimate experiences that snowboarding can offer; not only will this trip allow you to spend a whole week riding in the backcountry, but it will also enable you to develop your backcountry skills and knowledge so that you can enjoy future backcountry experiences even more!

DAILY SCHEDULE
Day 1   Arriving at the Tromso airport, we`ll pick you up and take you to our ship to settle in. Then we`ll spend the remaining part of the day touring the island town of Tromso. Surrounded by perpetually snow-clad, mile-high peaks, this town is known as the gateway to the Arctic. We`ll enjoy a welcome dinner aboard the boat while cruising toward the Lyngen Alps, our snowboard area.

Day 2   This is an easy tour day, allowing us to warm up our legs. We`ll start our ascent by climbing through sparse forest on the southern side of Norddalen. At 600m, the terrain levels out, lending us our first view of the summit, and from here it is a steady climb to the top. Be prepared for a superb view of the Lyngen Peninsula to the east. The descent will follow this same route, or if the snow conditions allow, we can traverse the massif and snowboard down to the waterfront to the boat.

Day 3   Today we`ll be touring up the Lyngsdalen Valley en route to Daltind, one of the most famous mountain peaks in the Lyngen Alps, via a broad snow gully that in parts is quite steep. It is a sane and safe ascent to the summit from which you can look directly into the heart of Lyngen to the highest peak and some of the biggest glaciers in the region, and as far as the plateaus of Finland and the open ocean beyond. After lunch, we`ll begin the descent. Never too difficult, but steep enough to keep you entertained, the descent is pure heaven all the way down. It will give us a great opportunity to begin working on our backcountry skills program.

Day 4   This is one of the most famous snowboard tours in Norway, and also one of the more demanding on our trip, as it ascends the highest mountain in Troms County called the King of the Lyngen Alps. We`ll start with a steep ascent up a gully, taking a short break at 900m before continuing up a bowl that culminates in a wide couloir, coming out onto our first summit ridge at 1660m. We`ll descend 150m before tackling the final ascent to the main summit, roping up for glacier travel with harnesses and carabiners because the summit is glaciated. After a long rest, we begin our descent, looking foward to a tremendous run-down to Holmbukttind.

Day 5   Today`s tour takes place on the northernmost tip of the Lyngen Peninsula, surrounded by the Arctic Ocean. We start from Sandneset, ascending through Galtdalen, and then continuing up to the col at 730m. From here the route steepens a little before reaching the top. Again, we are rewarded with magnificent views of the Lyngen Alps stretching out to the south with more mountains and fjords in all directions.

Day 6   Beginning at the municipal center of Lyngen, we climb up through the forest using a logging road. At 500m, we come onto a plateau and get our first view of our goal, the summit. Once we get to the top, we`ll be standing in the middle of the majestic Lyngen Alps, surrounded on all sides by alpine peaks. The descent will give us a great run back down.

Day 7   Depending on snow conditions, we`ll decide between two different tours. The first tour is one of the easier ones we`ll tackle. Harbouring at Olderdalen, we`ll have to carry our snowboards for a short distance, climbing steadily all the way to the top. The view is dominated by the Lyngen Alps to the northwest and the inland mountains of Troms County to the east. The descent brings us nearly all the way back to the sea. The other trip we could choose takes us to one of the summits on an island in the outer part of Lyngen Fjord. Anchoring at an old trading center where the buildings have been to preserved in their original style, we may arrange a visit to the old store. Afterwards, we`ll put snowboards on right at the shore and ascend up through the woods. Above the treeline, we climb steadily to the summit, where we`ll enjoy lunch with incredible views before snowboarding all the way back down to the boat.

Day 8   During the night of Day 7, we will cruise along the mystical fjords of Northern Norway on our way back to Tromso, arriving the morning of Day 8. After our last morning breakfast together, we`ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
