Geilo
The reasons why Geilo stand out from other Norwegian resorts are many, but one of the main reasons is the close proximity between the skiing areas and the towncenter. You can actually walk from the skilifts to the town center still wearing your skiboots!
Geilo is a nice little village, with shops and restaurants and all service facilities in the town center. Geilo is also Norway's most traditional skiresort, having been a touristdestination for more than a 100 years. Our long history and well organized infrastructure, benefits our guests greatly, and makes Geilo a unique place.
Geilo has a central location in Southern Norway, 800 metres above sea level half way between Oslo and Bergen.
With the Hallingskarvet mountain as its backbone and Hardangervidda, Northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau, as its nearest neighbour, Geilo offer unique possibiliteis for great experiences all year.

| Cross-country Skiing | The majestic Hallingskarvet mountain watches over everything and everyone. Round the mountain there are endless kilometres of inviting cross country tracks.
Skarverennet 2003 (cross country race) For those of you who have time to stop a little along the way. Listen. Hear the silence. It is good to sit down against the wall of the nearest mountain cabin, stretch your legs and philosophise over a cup of freshly-brewed coffee or steaming blackcurrant toddy.
A cross country ski trip is so much more than just walking up and along. A mouthful of healthy and good life is what you get. Enjoy it! The municipality of Hol has a total of 500 km of prepared and/or marked cross country tracks. A map of the cross country areas and an overview of all the marked cross country tracks can be found here.
Many of the tracks are connected to The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association’s (DNT) marked tracks on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau and in Skarvheimen – the opportunities are thus almost unlimited. In the high season all the tourist and mountain cabins are open for service and a well-earned rest. You can find the opening times of the mountain cabins here.
There are a total of 215 km prepared cross country tracks in the Geilo/Ustaoset area. 40 km are in woodland, 175 km are on the high mountains, 26 km are prepared for using skating technique, 5 km are floodlit.
There are nine mountain cabins serving food and drink in the area. A detailed report on skiing conditions is updated on a daily basis here... There are 5 km floodlit tracks by Geilo sports hall and the lights are on until 22:00 every evening.
Otherwise there are floodlit tracks at Dagali (2.5 km), Skurdalen (3 km), Hovet (4 km) and Hagafoss (3.5 km). Children’s skiing areas. Geilo has a varied network of well-prepared downhill slopes. They have a high level of safety and allow plenty of space for you and your style of skiing. From November until May you can choose almost all types of slope - steep and wide, long and easy. Ski lifts transport you quickly to the top of the slopes, while mountain restaurants offer you the chance to slow down again with good food and friendly service.
We have hosted guests in Geilo for almost 100 years, a tradition we intend to continue. | | Snowboarding | Build up speed. Play. Jump high. Test yourself on the big jump, fun box and bordercross, or try the country’s only super-pipe in Norway’s best snowboard park.
Many people think that this is exactly what Geilo has. The best snowboarders come here to become even better, while others have enough to work on keeping up with the laws of gravity while they practise backside and frontside rodeos, or perform a high backside air with indy grab.
You can do a boardslide on the rail, and the Volkswagen beetle on the slope is ready for a nose & tail bunk.
Norway’s coolest half pipe – the Super Pipe at Fugleleiken With a height of 5.70 metres and length of 150 metres, the new half pipe on Geilo’s sunny side looks huge and formidable.
It is Northern Europe’s largest half pipe, but it is also suitable for beginners. More than NOK 1.2 million has been invested in special maintenance equipment for the snowboard parks, for the benefit of our snowboard guests.
