The Resort
The name of Isola has been derived from the Italianization of the Indo-European root "Lev" referring to a sloping land. Thus, the name given to the village was due to the very nature of the land and not to any hypothetical island nor to any remoteness, as one might think.

Isola 2000 is located on the Chastillon plateau, that was, during World War Two, a highly strategic military territory on which one can still nowadays find many remains such as blockhouses, barracks, military tracks, etc.

In the aftermath of the armistice signature, the border had been set on the crest line of the south-facing side of the valley, precisely at the Lombarde pass, a gateway suitable for motor vehicles (except for the wintertime) from France to Italy.

The adventure of Isola only started at the beginning of the sixties, when an Englishman, P. Boumphrey, offered to build a winter sports resort on the Chastillon area. This meant for the mayor and the town council an opportunity for the village to keep the local young people at home in these times of rural depopulation.

The English then made that somewhat crazy bet in 1971, and the resort of Isola 2000 came out of the virgin mountain.

Skiing in Isola 2000
ISOLA 2000 is a modern construction, based in a setting which guarantees snow in winter and sun in summer. The resort is composed by buildings facing the sun ans the foot on the slopes. These buldings communicate with a long shopping arcade where you can find whatever your need for daily life in the ski resort : restaurants and bars, a movie, 2 discos, various shops, 3 mini markets, a tourit bureau and a primary school.
