Welcome to the Ski Center of the Year
Levi is the first ski center in Finland to have actually built a real village in a ski center. Levi offers diverse and high quality services all in the same area: accommodation, restaurants, shops, and auxiliary services. Levi’s restaurant services are outstanding among those offered at Finnish ski resorts and the center’s after-ski activities are in a class of their own. The center has been incredibly resourceful in the use of the possibilities available to it. The great diversity of ski slopes at Levi meets the requirements of skiers of nearly all levels. Children and families are given special consideration. Great attention has also been given to alternative and special snow sports; just look at the pace the terrain parks for skiers and snowboarders have been developed.
These are some of the reasons on which the council based their selection of Levi as Finland’s Ski Center ofthe Year for the fourth time. Credit was also given to the first Alpine Skiing World Cup race in Finland organized at Levi, and how Levi is attracting more and more visitors from abroad. However, there are many more new features and enhancements to come, which will make our ski area even better and more diverse.
For the 2004/2005 season, we are focusing more on the start and end of the season. The ‘first snow’ track will be awaiting cross-country skiers as early as October and ski pass prices will be especially low until the end of November and again at the end of spring. A wider variety than ever of attractive accommodation options will be available throughout the season.
Hotel Levitunturi has expanded its restaurant dining area. The new Restaurant World has five restaurants with combined seating for 1,500 persons. There are dozens of new accommodation alternatives in and around Levi and Levin Matkailu Oyis now operating in new premises. The golf course currently under construction at Levi is a result of the emphasis being placed on the summer and other ‘snow-free’season. The first nine holes are to be opened for play by the end of summer 2005 and fairways 10 -18 are scheduled to be completed two years after the opening of the course.
As a result of the brilliantly successful organization of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup event in February 2004,the white circus has informed us that they will be returning to our arctic fell town again for the World Cup in November 2006. Prior to that, however, Levi will be hosting the European Cup in men’s giant slalom at the beginning of December in 2004. In March of 2005, Levi will also be organizing the Ski Orienteering World Championships and the World Airline Ski Championship competitions.
The Levi crew bids welcome to visitors old and new to experience world class events and adventures at Levi!
