One of the most important recreational centres in Krkonoše is situated in the westest part of Krkonoše, directly on the border with Poland. It lies in a hollow along the river Mumlava and its affluents Milnice, Kamenice, and Bílá voda. From the south, it is bound by steep slope of Certova hora (1020 m. a. s.), from the north, by less steeper slopes of Silesian ridge (Mrtvý vrch – 1059 m. a. s., Jakšín – 1115 m. a. s.) The very important saddle is Novosvetský prusmyk (885 m. a. s.), where the border crossing between Harrachov and Poland – Jakuszyce , international road E-65 and railway to Jelení hory (out of order) go through it.

Harrachov is mainly the centre of winter sports and recreation. On the shoulder of Certova hora, several downhill courses which vary from easy to difficult have been built. There are several ski jumps including the mammoth one and cross country race trails. Downhill courses that are managed by Sports area Harrachov a.s., are equipped with modern system of artificial snow that enables to go skiing up to 5 months a year. There are also several cross-country rails that are marked as the ones for tourist’s use and there is also a large cross-country race trail. Harrachov as one of few Krkonoše´s winter resorts enables you to go snowboarding on all downhill courses and they can use all cableways and ski lifts.

Directly in Harrachov you can find several ski schools that have had wide experience with training in downhill or cross-country skiing.

The ones who come to Harrachov without skis can visit several ski rentals that offer more than 6000 pairs of skis in total and you also have a possibility to have a complete service done concerning ski equipment. In Harrachov, important winter sport’s championships take place.

The main competitions are annual important ski jump championships including the ones that are part of World Cup or even World championship.

Harrachov is very well accessible because of its location directly at international road E65, coming from Prague or Poland. All means of transport going to Harrachov are very well cared about in all seasons, only during winter seasons cars must be equipped with good winter tyres and because of frequent snowing, it is recommended to own winter chains and a spade. Road border crossing is for all means of transport. Harrachov-Jakuszyce is about 3 km far from the Harrachov town centre. It is possible to use road no.14 coming from Špindleruv Mlýn, Vrchlabí, Trutnov, Hradec Králové, Brno, or Jilemnice. When travelling from Germany or Poland, it is convenient to use recommended border-crossings and routes.
