The Alpbachtal Ski Area was first opened in 1961 and has since been continuously upgraded.

With the direct link to Inneralpbach established in 1978, the Wiedersbergerhornbahn constructed in 1988, and an ongoing snowmaking facility programme in place since 1990, the Alpbachtal Ski Area is now state of the art.

The Wiedersbergerhornbahn (6-seater gondolas) serves as the heart of the ski area and takes just twelve minutes to cover over a thousand metres of vertical, from 820 to 1850 metres above sea-level. It also has a middle station which can be used for both the uphill and downhill ride.

Snowmaking is currently available from the upper terminal to the middle station and will be extended to the lower terminal in the 2000/2001 winter season.

The trail down to Inneralpbach also has a full snowmaking capability.

Our groomer drivers work until late at night and in the early morning to ensure that skiers find the trails in perfect condition when they start their day's skiing.

Over the last twenty years, the Alpbachtal ski area has consistently qualified for the Ski Piste Seal of Approval awarded by the Tyrolean regional authority. The award is made for a three-year period but based on annual inspections.

In line with our motto "Use the ski bus and spare the environment!", we offer an attractive shuttle service designed to persuade visitors that they are better off without their cars. The ski buses serve the ski area from the whole of Alpbachtal and its environs. It goes without saying that the service is free.

The lower terminal of the Wiedersbergerhornbahn has a heated ski store with lockers for three pairs of skis plus boots. The rental charge is currently ATS 20.- per day or ATS 90.- for six days.

Safety first:
There are information boards with a plan of the ski area at all lifts and cableways and other key points within the ski area. The boards show which lifts and cableways are in operation and whether the trails are open or closed. Be sure to respect all warning notices. Never cross a cordon or enter a trail that is closed.

Our two-man Piste Patrol are constantly doing their rounds. Do not hesitate to ask them for information or for any help you may need. And if the worst should come to the worst, you can be confident that our rescue service will be there to provide fast and professional assistance.
