Ten years ago, when few people supported the snowboard industry, two friends decided to take a risk and go into business for themselves. Grant Wellington and his partner purchased equipment from a bankrupt snowboard manufacturer in Alberta and set out to make the "Best Boards in the Biz". Though they only produced a modest 300 boards their first season, Wellington planted the seed for Canada's most successful snowboard company. Over the following years, production increased exponentially and the company changed from 'Never' to 'Option'. In 1994, Wellington sought out businessman Geoff Power, to take over the company as President and CEO. Bringing with him a vast resource of knowledge in marketing and business management, Power quickly helped the company develop into the multi million-dollar corporation that it is today. With the acquisition of NFA (No Fixed Address) in 1997, Option expanded to incorporate the clothing industry; specializing in "Snowboard" Outerwear and "Skater" Streetwear.
Since 1992, Option and NFA has won numerous awards of excellence, most notably the BC and Canadian Export awards, and recognition as one of BC's Best Managed Private Companies. The Option and NFA Team riders, managed by Chad Perrin, have also gained worldwide recognition, and have graced the cover pages of such prestigious magazines as "Snowboard Canada", "Transworld Snowboarding", "Snowboarder", and Japan's "Snowing". In the recent spring 2001 issue of 'Snowboard Canada Magazine" Option was counted amongst the top 3 brands recommended for purchase, also, the Option "Signature" board was voted by the top riders as one of the top ten boards for 2001-2002 and the Option 'Mirror' was voted as one of the top ten freestyle boards for 2002-2003 by Transworld Snowboarding Magazine.
With riders like Joni Makinen, and Kevin Sansalone test riding each year's boards and even designing their own models, Option has been able to maintain a level of excellence above and beyond its competitors. The design team, lead by originator Grant Wellington, uses Option's pro riders as a sounding board for new ideas, thus keeping the company on the cutting edge of Snowboard technology. NFA Outerwear clothing undergoes a series of rugged tests by the NFA "winter team" .
