Yabuli is located in the Shangzhi City, around 200 kilometers east of Harbin. Yabuli is a year-round tourist attraction specializing in Ski activities. It is a subrange of the Changbai Mountain Range and covers 2,225 hectares. The resort is endowed with favorable natural conditions, making it the best natural skiing resorts in China. The area’s temperature is minus 1 degrees Celsius and the winter lasts for as long a six months – October to April. Snow depth reaches an average of 39cm and gets as thick as 60cm in high altitude regions.

Daily, there is a number of tourist trains to the resort from Harbin, taking about 3 hours. Once you arrive at the town, mini tourist buses will transfer you to the tourist resort.
Cost for the resort can vary greatly. It is generally a RMB300-500 for use of the resort (depending upon your skill level). It is then around RMB100 for ski and equipment rental. A standard double room in the resort will cost RMB540 (Windmill Villa. You may also be able to stay more cheaply in the Yabuli town. Hotels here range upwards from a lowest price of RMB70, although these will be hard to reserve prior to arrival and not all take foreigners. For more comprehensive information you can call CITS.

We went to Yabuli in Feb, 2007 during Chinese New Year. Keep in mindthis is considered the busiest travel time in China. Getting thereis a bit of an adventure, start in Harbin and either pay for a tourwhich will pick you up with a van from Harbin, or be tough and hit the bus station. to save you 1 hour of waiting in line, go to the 2ndfloor of the bus station and ask for Yabuli. needless to say, speaking Chinese will make all of this much, much easier. buses run every few hours. the bus takes about 2 hours and drops you in the middle ofnowhere. dont worry, a guy in a black leather jacket will appearwith a car to take you to the resort. that's the local taxi, costto the resort is about 30 RMB. We stayed at Windmill village. Theyare the best advertised on internet, but also the oldest and worst of the accomodations. there are a few newer, slightly more expensive placesthat I recommend if you dont mind paying extra. windmill villagelost our reservation and was very crowded so they had to "upgrade"us to a room that looked like a WWII bunker, and made us pay extra!after 30 min of arguing, we got a nicer room, but still paid extra. The breakfast there is bad even by local standards, suggest you bringsome snacks from Harbin, forget about a supermarket in Yabuli. there is nothing resembling a town nearby either. We were unlucky with little snow and only about half the runs open and 2 lifts running. The runs we did where easy and rather short, the harder were all closed.Lines were long in the afternoon, 10 min waits were common. there is no grooming at Yabuli and exposed patches, dontbring your brand new board here. rental equipment is available, especially boards as skiing seems to be much more popular in China.off-piste is available but only if there is alot of snow, but dont go alone and dont practice your 720 here, rescue helicopters are not an option. There are two decent restaurants nearby: one that is inside a train car right outside the resort, serves spicy bbq. another is a koreanplace within walking distance, looks like a prison camp outside andinside, but the food is great. nightlife options include bowlingat the windmill village, and drinking at the restaurants. thenewer hotels have lobby bars. we hired a car to take us back to Harbin, about 80 USD. Yabuli is a real adventure but dont expect much in terms of snowboarding. One final note, Harbin is a beautiful city, the best time to gois during the Ice Festival. Enjoy

I am trying to get the name of the Mountain Manager at The Yabuli Ski Area to introduce a special snow making additive/neucleator.
Please advise to celcons@comcast.net
